The first week back to school from Christmas break. I think you can imagine what those first few days were like. Dragging my feet, crawling to the coffee machine, and praying my children are coherent enough to dress themselves at six o’clock in the morning. Everyone is tired, no one wants to go back to school.

My son, who is autistic, has been struggling a bit. I can understand that since he’s been carefree for the past two weeks. Now he’s having to keep himself composed as much as he can for eight hours as they follow the school schedule. I’m struggling to find a way to help him release that energy in a healthy and enjoyable way.

My oldest son has been struggling to stay focused and keep his mind on his school work. That’s to be expected when the Xbox is very clearly calling your name. I’m working on finding a balance for him because I know he needs time to unwind as well.

My daughter functions very well on her own, but don’t you dare speak to her in the morning. She and I are alike in that way.

I’m pretty sure after this week is over, we will all be back to normal and functioning as we did before break. These things take time, an exorcist, a little bit of holy water, and a ton of coffee. If you don’t hear from me by Friday, please just send more coffee. I hear a good strong cup of joe can awaken the dead…or at least help a grown woman remember how to adult.
